Jukai for Steve Bokudo Holy |
|
"I originally came to Buddhism from an aspiration to know my own mind and come to awakening, which led to practice at the Montreal Zen Centre from 1988 to 1994. My teacher Albert Low did not give Jukai, instead emphasizing the role of deep zazen and sesshin, in transforming our lives. However, I always felt an affinity with ethical introspection and the Buddhist tradition itself, and came to Great Vow with this in mind. When I asked to take Jukai, Hogen immediately said that it should happen in Vancouver (BC), to benefit the Sangha we are creating here. This resonated with one current direction in the practice, which is to seek freedom and happiness with others.

During the preparations I felt a deep sense of being part of something huge that has involved millions of beings, and the ceremony itself was like a pure distillation of all this energy. One moment that stands out: waiting in silence with Chozen for the ceremony to begin. I felt a tremendous love and gratitude for her Dharma and for her as a human being, and this feeling for both of my teachers inspires me breath by breath, to practice and requite their efforts. I only wish I could do this better! |

My Dharma name is Bokudo, which means simple path, and it has made a lot of people happy, especially me. I’m also amazed at its teaching which is so bulls-eye! After fifteen sometime stormy years, waiting for Jukai, it’s a relief to settle down straight ahead, as Bokudo." Bokudo's Jukai ceremony took place on October 26th in Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver, BC. |
