On the last day of November 2006 Chozen came to Corvallis to hold our jukai ceremony. It struck me on that day that we were then at the opposite time of year from when our original ceremony had taken place. (We had had to leave minutes before the April event due to a fall Bill's mom had taken at our house.) This outcome was painful and significant, revealing my attachment to having the event turn out a certain way, being able to share it with my mother-in-law, have it help bridge years of disconnection and pain.

In November, the rising energy of spring had turned around. Nature was withdrawing into its source.  Bill's mother was unable to attend because of poor health.  There was no craving or disappointment or wishing things were other than what they were.  The evening ceremony was calm and peaceful, filled with the warm support of our strong and wonderful sangha . . . how perfect!
