Jukai for Tuck Doyu Forsythe

On March 25, 2007 Tuck Forsythe received the 16 Buddhist precepts from Chozen and Hogen Bays in a Jukai ceremony. His Dharma name is "Doyu" which means "companion on the way."

More info about Jukai.

At the end of the ceremony Doyu presented a song about Great Vow, and his experiences during sesshin. We were able to find the lyrics, sung to the tune of "Kansas City" from the musical "Oklahoma". Please enjoy.

We got to Great Vow temple on Saturday

By Sunday we'd let go of a thing or two

Cuz up to then we didn't have an idea

Of how Sangha sits, or what to do.

I counted 20 makyo all dancin' in my head

And then it was time for our kinhin

But when we went to our next sanzen time

Those delusions started in again!

What next? - Here's what!

Everything's up to date at Great Vow temple

We've gone about as far as we can go

We went and built a zendo floor on a foot of sand

Most impermanent sitting place I know

Everything's uncertain at Great Vow temple

Now should we bow, or should we say our vows?

Should we all bow to our sleepiness - or should we bow to our pain?

Should we all vow diligence - or should we vow mellowness?

So if it moves we bow to it, if appropriate we do it

We've gone about as far as we can go!
