Shakuhachi Performance at PDC

On Thursday, July 13, Shakuhachi master Alcvin Takegawa Ramos joined us at the Dharma center. The shakuhachi is a Japanese flute (pictured above), the playing of which was used by one Rinzai sect as their primary practice. It is apparently a very difficult instrument to play, requiring great muscle and breath control. Alcvin played several inspired pieces, while we sat and listened. It was a beautiful performance.

Daitetsu, Alcvin and Kodo after the well recieved performance.
