Zendo Project Stage 6The floor project begins in earnest |
|
Due to some changes Deston re-created the map of the floor pipes.

Plumbers came and installed the plumbing system. Here the seven valves for the heating pipes can be seen, outgoing and incoming. Out of sight against the left wall is the on-demand heater which will heat the outgoing water. |

Here are the rough holes punched into the wall to allow the pipes access to the zendo. |

The carpet was removed from the floor (no small matter), after which plastic was put down. |
![]() |
Here Xiau Feng tapes the plastic to the floor. The plastic forms the first layer of the new floor. |

The outlets that are currently in the floor will remain. They will be raised to the surface of the new floor, and be covered with brass plates. |

|
Bobnamu, David and Jikan install the last of the plastic. |

After installing the plastic 2x4's were brought in through the window and attached to the floor. These are called "sleepers". They support the floor, and the tubing will wind around them. |

Evan, David, Dan and Shundo all begin the job of installing 2x4's to the zendo floor. |
|

Here's the founder's room with the sleepers installed. Note the red marks on the plastic showing the path the tubing will take. |

With all the construction the zendo has been temporarily moved to the gym. |
![]() |
The move to the gym was surprisingly easy. Although not ideal, the feel of the gym is amenable to zazen, and the lines on the floor and basketball hoops seem to fade into the background as we sit. |
Thanks to everyone who's come out to help! |
