The heating system for the zendo begins and ends in this room. To prepare the system we did a pressure test to confirm it would hold water. Then the system was charged with water, and the excess air in the water removed through a valve. When the system was completely leak-free, and at a stable pressure it was ready to be used. The system works like this: The thermostat is set for a desired temperature (the thermostat registers the temp. of the sand in the warmest spot of the floor). The thermostat signals the pump to start pumping the water. Water moving through the heater signals the heater to start heating the water. As the water expands, excess flows into the gray overflow tub. When the sand reaches the desired temp. it turns the pump off. When water stops flowing through the heater it turns off. |

The 4x8 sheets of plywood are brought into the zendo, and distributed over the floor. Evan inspects each piece for flaws and warps. |

Each piece of plywood is measured and cut before being placed on the floor. Walker measures twice and cuts once. |

After the first layer of plywood is put down, a second, thinner layer is added. Its purpose is to strengthen the floor, and provide enough wood for the bamboo-floor staples penetrate. Josh helps screw down the second layer. |
