Jack Lawlor

Jack Lawlor was ordained a Dharma Teacher by Thich Nhat Hanh at a Transmission of the Lamp Ceremony in Plum Village in 1992. Jack began formal Sangha practice in the mid-1970s with Roshi Philip Kapleau, author of The Three Pillars of Zen. He has served as President of the Buddhist Council of the Midwest and on the national Board of Directors of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. Jack’s home Sangha, Lakeside Buddha Sangha in Evanston, Illinois, will be observing its 25th anniversary in 2016. Jack currently serves on the Care-Taking Council of the North American Plum Village Tradition Dharma Teachers Council comprised of lay and monastic members in the US and Canada. Jack has practiced law since 1976 and has been married to Dharma teacher and author Laurie Lawlor for 42 years. They have two adult children and four grandchildren age 6 and younger.
