Summer Residency Program 2021
July 8 - August 22, 2021
Thursday, July 8th at 9:00 am to Sunday, August 22nd at 1:00pm
The Summer Program at Great Vow Zen Monastery is an opportunity to plunge into Zen practice with the support of community and teachers, and to taste the benefits of calming the mind and opening the heart.
Our Summer Program is a special part of our on-going residential program at the monastery. It is designed to give you a genuine immersion in Zen practice, through the practices of meditation, mindful eating. ritual/liturgy, movement practices (yoga/qi gong), and temple work. Guidance from the teachers in the form of san zen (face-to-face practice interviews), classes on Zen practice and states of mind, study, and retreats/workshops are also an essential part of the residential experience.
The beauty and serenity of the monastery itself provides extra support in the process of re-discovering and resting in true self. This endeavor can be life-changing. It is an opportunity to deepen your meditation practice, find peace of mind, and discover the innate confidence and clarity that shine through when life is oriented towards presence and acceptance.
In addition to zazen, meals, community work, classes, and daily teachings, it also includes:
- Weekend Meditation Retreat
- Grasses and Trees Sesshin, week-long meditation retreat held mostly outdoors.
- Cultivating the Empty Field Sesshin, week-long silent meditation intensive.
- Weekly one-on-one meetings with Zen teacher.
The residency fee is reduced to $250 during the Summer Program, though donations during the summer months (or any other time) are very much appreciated.
Due to the global pandemic, in order to enter our residential community summer program participants must arrive having completed 2 weeks past their final Covid vaccine dose.
Arrival is July 8 and is not adjustable.
