Compassion for Yourself and Others: Three-Month Guided Online Practice Group

September 20 - December 13, 2021

Mondays, 7:00pm-9:00pm Pacific Time. Required info meeting September 20th. First class is Monday, September 27th.

The group will follow a 12-week curriculum that combines Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication framework, mindfulness and meditation practices, and teachings from Buddhism and other spiritual traditions.

The purpose of the group is to help participants develop greater compassion for themselves and others. This includes developing greater acceptance and understanding of our basic human needs, values, and motivations and strengthening our ability to communicate about them with others. It also includes further developing our ability to listen to others with empathy and presence.

Monday, September 20th is a required free information meeting for anyone considering participation in the group. The actual 12-week curriculum starts on Monday, September 27th.  To sign up for the September 20th information meeting, contact Josh at willamette_mann@yahoo.com

We ask that participants commit to attending most of the Monday evening sessions as well as speaking weekly with a practice partner outside of the group sessions.

We will use The Ongo Book: Everyday Nonviolence by Catherine Cadden and Jesse Wiens. Everyone who participates in the course is expected to buy the book, which costs about $25 new. You can order the book here.

Although there is not a set fee to participate, donations are welcomed and appreciated. The donations will be divided between the sangha and the practice group leader.

For more information or to attend the information meeting on September 20th, contact Josh Mann at willamette_mann@yahoo.com .
