Origami Lotus Flowers

Many of these flowers were made by the deaf women at Sarvodaya Shramadana in Sri Lanka. The women live and work at Sarvodaya Shramadana, a community development organization founded in 1958 on Buddhist and Gandhian principles. Sarvodaya means “universal uplift” and Shramadana means “gift of labor.”

Chozen, Roshi, Kodo, and Eimyo taught the young women how to fold these flowers on their pilgrimage to Sri Lanka in 2011. After the origami flowers arrive at Great Vow, they are dipped in wax to make them more durable.

Because they are hand made, no two are exactly alike. Let us pick the color for you.
