Heart of Wisdom Founders' Dinner
Come celebrate the first full year in our new home with an evening of performance, dinner, and fellowship! There is no charge for the dinner, but to ensure we are able to offer the Dharma to future generations, please come with a generous heart so we can raise money to support the Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple.
Please RSVP by September 1st.
The evening will include a Bharata Natyam dance performance by Anusha Fernando.
Anusha Fernando is a performer and teacher of Bharata Natyam and the Artistic Director of Vancouver, B.C’s, Shakti Dance Society. Anusha began studying Bharata Natyam in 1990 and graduated from the Jai Govinda Dance Academy in 1995. Upon graduation, she continued training with Jai Govinda and began teaching and performing as a soloist and ensemble member.
Currently, Anusha is exploring the rich texts of the Indian tradition and relating her study of dance to her academic research in Religious Studies (BA, McGill University) and Sanskrit (MA¸UBC). On a personal level, she is very interested in how her Buddhist practice and dance practice support each other.
Anusha has this to say about Bharata Natyam: "Although Bharata Natyam is an ancient tradition, it is relevant for our lives today. It deals with timeless things: the body, the mind, longing, and liberation. I believe that, more than ever, we need to know how to still the mind, be disciplined, and open the heart. So it is irrelevant whether you are in Vancouver or India, a young city or an ancient one, the practice is relevant because you are a human being."
