Awakening to Whiteness: Using the Dharma to Dismantle Oppression

Sunday, January 12, 2020 - 3:30 pm

“Without inner change there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters.”
― angel Kyodo williams

WHAT IS IT?

Our work is inspired by White Awake, a non-profit whose mission is to combat white supremacy by focusing on educational resources and spiritual practices designed to engage people who’ve been socially categorized as “white” in the creation of a just and sustainable society. We have adapted the White Awake curriculum for our sangha.

Awakening to Whiteness is structured as an “affinity group” for white people to explore the elements that have contributed to this often unconscious identity.  We explore in this way with an understanding that our own liberation/awakening is intimately bound to one another.  Affinity groups are one way to lay groundwork to enlarge our understanding and prepare us to build authentic relationships and alliances.

WHEN: A Series of Monthly Sunday meetings from 3:30 - 5:30pm

January 12, 2020 - An open meeting to explore the process.
