Shuso Hosen : A Ceremony Celebrating the End of the Training Year

Sunday, December 09, 2018 - 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

Join us for this lively, dynamic ceremony that marks the end of Ango, the training year, and Kennyo's service in the Training Position of Shuso. The shuso at the monastery serves three important roles exemplifying self-less service, a mark of the ordination vows. First that of the practice leader demonstrating through their embodiment of the Dharma, the sincerity of whole-hearted practice for the community. Secondly the shuso handles all of the various details organizing daily practice, ceremonies and retreats. And lastly the shuso embodies deep concern for the Sangha, caring for each being as if his own child. This training position is challenging at times and asks that whoever is serving the role be able to turn on a dime.

During this ceremony Kennyo will demonstrate his understanding of a koan, deliver a formal talk and then take questions from the Sangha. Following each member of the community will have the opportunity to appreciate Kennyo's wholehearted embodiment of the role of Shuso.

Please come and support Kennyo in gratitude for all his practice efforts this year!
