Wednesday Night Meditations with Jogen : The Radiance Sutras

Wednesday, March 21, 2018 - 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm

We're going to be working with a text called the Radiance Sutras, a luscious contemporary translation of the Bhairava Tantra, an ancient Sanskrit text that offers 112 different passages with practice method, pointers and inspiration for touching the transcendent in the immanence of our everyday experience.

Each week we will work with a different passage using this and supplementary translations. Here you can find a free translation by Daniel Odier: http://www.danielodier.com/english/envijnana.php

Every meeting will begin with settling in quiet sitting followed by tea, treats and informal discussion and exploration on the weeks passage. We then have a sequence of practices to prepare and orient the body, intention and attitude to Dharma, followed by guided and quiet meditation using the week's passage.

Below is a sample of the text and the first of the passages that we will work with starting this Wednesday. In it we are offered propositions to be 'steadily considered' in direct experience: 'Behind the spine is infinity ', ' the heart is wide as a spiral galaxy ' and we are also given vision of the outcome of such immersion: ' know the living body of vastness that you are.'

I think working together with these teachings as a supplement to our foundational calm-abiding practices will be enriching and rewarding. Please join us!

Behind the spine is infinity.
Below the perineum,
Invisible pulsating roots
Open downward into space.

The heart is wide as a spiral galaxy.

Steadily consider
Back, root, heart,
And know the living body of vastness
That you are.
