Wilderness Sesshin: A Weeklong Silent Meditation Retreat in the Natural World

Sunday, August 19, 2018 - 2:00 pm to Sunday, August 26, 2018 - 10:00 am

The location for this sesshin will be near Bend, Oregon. Space is limited and reserved only for those who have both previous sesshin and backpacking experience.

Resting within the wilderness we can immerse ourselves in its ancient, timeless wisdom and allow our hearts to be touched by its original beauty. When we truly empty ourselves and listen, silent meditation in the wordless simplicity of the natural world reveals to us our own most basic clarity, the natural awake mind before thought.

This is intended to be a physically rigorous sesshin, but the level of rigor will be determined in large part by the landscape and weather conditions that greet us. It will be a time to leave behind the safety of the comfortable homes we usually inhabit and expose ourselves to the natural conditions of earth, sky, waters, and wildlife - whatever they may be! We will sit long hours of zazen and hike (optional running), regardless of inner and outer weather conditions.

We will meet Sunday afternoon, hike in Monday, and spend five days following a variation of the traditional sesshin schedule which will allow for additional body practice and guided hikes/runs. We will arrive back at the parking lot Sunday morning. Space is limited, please contact Soten at, or 503-308-3139 to RSVP or with questions.

The details around exact arrival time and departure time are not secured. Please call before booking flights or making additional commitments close to the beginning and end of the retreat as currently posted.
