Robes and Lineage: A Class Exploring the Zen Lineage of Zen Community of Oregon

March 2, 2021

March 2nd 7P - 8:30P

During this class we will look at a brief history of the robes/precepts garment in the Zen Buddhist Tradition. The Rakusu is a miniature version of the Buddha’s robe that everyone who takes Jukai, the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts will hand sew. Sewing the Rakusu is a deep practice of mindfulness, presence, compassion and vow.
We will also reflect on, investigate and connect with lineage. The jukai ceremony is a ceremony where one becomes part of this particular stream or lineage of Zen practice. It affirms a connection with this community and usually with one or more teachers within this community. We will spend some time getting to know key players in the Zen lineages that we have received and connect with what lineage means to us.

This is a required class for all those working on Jukai.
